Boom

Boom is a 3-meter diameter wall-mounted artwork commissioned by Toronto based Union Art and Design. Fabricated from a composite solid surface material the architectural installation is inset into the wall of a biotechnology company in Seattle, USA.

Bioinformatics is the interdisciplinary study of biology and information technology. This field was the key inspiration for this design.

Commissioned to create a dynamic entrance installation for a corporate space, the brief explored themes of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the cross-industry synergy that defines the sector. The design was influenced by the company's logo, which naturally lent itself to the creation of an intricate circular form, with elements bursting outward from a central point. This design serves as a captivating focal point, greeting visitors with a visual metaphor for innovation, creativity, and forward-thinking technologies.

In addition to the main installation, two complementary artworks were commissioned for another area of the building. These pieces, crafted from fabricated alluminum, marked the first time the Chris Wood Light Studio produced their iconic wall artworks within a circular frame. This format, previously set within squared panels, beautifully accentuates the movement and flow of the designs, further enhancing the sense of energy and creativity that resonates throughout the space.
