“The square is not a subconscious form. It is the creation of intuitive reason. The face of the new art. The square is a living, regal infant. The first step of pure creation in art.”
One of the many new artworks leaving the studio last summer was ‘Shapeshifter’ (2022) Commissioned for Wildlife expert TV presenter and author Chris Packham.
“I like the draw of symmetry for its comfort But I like the challenge of complexity within it to keep the work challenging. I don’t like art to be too easy . Pleasing for me is striving.
What excites me most about your work is the natural light aspect of it , it’s modern reinvention of stained glass (I love cathedrals as an aesthete atheist ) and it’s dynamism
It’s highly likely that due to the vagaries of the earth circling the sun and the weather that I will never see it look the same way twice!
And lastly I like memorising and remembering patterns so I can dissect them and find their connections and origins.”

This 5 piece series explores the pattern work of Aztec rug designs.
Tumble
This piece is a development from Wood’s famous work Irdieden, recreated in a squared format.
The placement of the dichroic pieces beautifully harness the light to create these sparkling explosions of colour as the light bounces from one piece to another.
