Light Shower

"Light Shower" is an integrated window installation designed to transform the second-floor living room window of a private residence in Cambridgeshire, UK. This project builds upon the artist’s earlier work, "Seeds," created for the Birthing Unit of the Rosie Maternity Hospital in Cambridge. "Light Shower" elevates the concept further by embedding the dichroic elements directly within the double-glazed window unit itself, rather than suspending them in front of the glass. This seamless integration merges the artwork with the architecture, making it an inherent part of the home’s design.

The artwork celebrates the new beginning the clients experienced upon moving into their home, with the seed motif symbolising the birth of new life in the space. The circular design, reminiscent of a poppy seed head, scatters vibrant colored light throughout the room when the sun shines through, decorating the interiors and people with rainbow coloured patterns. Even on cloudy days, the dichroic elements respond to the surrounding environment, reflecting the natural beauty outside and drawing the eye outward, connecting the indoor space with the natural world.

"Light Shower" is designed to be enjoyed from both inside and outside the property, creating a captivating visual experience for anyone approaching or inhabiting the home. It celebrates the interaction of light, colour, and nature, offering a constant dialogue with the changing environment.
